The Great Ocean Road:

Torquay is the gateway to the Great Ocean Road with the beginning of the famous stretch of road beginning only a few hundred metres from the hostel! A breathtaking drive by any standards!

Surf City Plaza:

Some of the biggest names in surfwear and accessories are headquartered here, with huge retail outlets at Surf City Plaza selling everything connected with the sport. Check out the latest from the likes of Rip Curl, Quiksilver, Strapper and Rojo. And around the corner you can bag yourself a bargain from the Baines Court surf seconds outlets (not to be missed!)

Surf Beaches:

Being known as the surf capital of Australia, it is no surprise that the area boasts excellent surf beaches! Torquay surf beach is only 10 minutes walk from the hostel and Jan Juc 20 minutes. The famous Bells Beach is in a national park area 6klm from Torquay.

Coastal Walks:

Take in the breathtaking scenery on the beautiful clifftop walking tracks! This is the best way to see the local coastline and you can even follow the tracks to Bells Beach and beyond!

Surf Lessons:

Torquay Front Beach:

If surfing is not your thing, go for a swim or just relax on the peaceful front beach. Here you don’t have to worry about being bowled over by a wave as its protected from the swell. The many kitesurfers offer some entertainment and a splash of colour on the horizon!

The Nightjar Market-January:

This is a designer/artisans market with a night market vibe! This vibrant night market has beautiful unique craft, fantastic local beer and wine, yummy food and amazing musicians to entertain you all night, The Nightjar market will run each Thursday night from 4pm till 10pm for the whole of January.

Danger 1000 Ocean Swim-January:

The two day festival kicks off on the Friday night with a fun run at the Jan Juc Surf Lifesaving Club, Surf Club Road, Jan Juc. The events continue throughout Saturday with swim race options for the whole family. On Saturday the Danger 1000 Ocean Swim at Torquay Front beach occurs. Spectators can enjoy being able to watch both the start and finish of each age group (wave) from the comfort of the grass in the natural amphitheatre at Torquay Front Beach - Cosy Corner. www.janjucsurfclub.com.au

Bells Bash Cliff Run_January:

Held in conjunction with the Danger 1000 Ocean Swim on Saturday . On the Friady evening of the two day festival is the 8km run along the clifftop track to Bells Beach. If you’re not up to such strenuous exercise then you can always opt for the 4km run/walk instead! www.janjucsurfclub.com.au

The 2XU Great Ocean Road & Otway Classic Ride - September:

The 2XU Great Ocean & Otway Classic Ride is an amazing day of riding along Victoria's world famous Great Ocean Road, for what is one of Australia's Premier Recreational Rides, attracting over 300 interstate participants. Starting in Torquay, the ride will take riders through the towns of Moriac and Deans Marsh, before taking riders up and over the Otway Ranges and into Lorne. From there, riders will then make their way back to Torquay along the Great Ocean Road, moving through the townships of Airey's Inlet and Anglesea. www.supersprint.com.au

The Ripcurl Pro Surf competition-Easter Week:

Bells Beach is home to the Rip Curl Pro, the world's longest running professional surfing event and one of the most sought after titles on the World Championship Tour See the worlds best surfers battle it out for the trophy or maybe even bump into them having a coffee in town! The men’s finals are on Easter Sunday and the women’s on Easter Monday every year.
